Last week, the SAB ushered in Wonder Week with a slew of student-led events, some old to campus and others new. An old-timer and the kick-off of the week was Gold Rush Bingo.
“We always do the Gold Rush Bingo event during Wonder Week. We did it on Monday this year to kick off the week and get the school spirit up. It’s definitely about creating a fun atmosphere for everyone to come to hang out.” Madison Starks, signature events chair, said.
The event also offered an opportunity for students to win prizes, including Apple watches, speakers, and even TVs.
SAB led a newer event, not only in honor of the school spirit week but also in honor of National Pizza Day: “Lunch on Us.” Students were invited to pick up a deep-dish pizza. Options included cheese, beef, pepperoni, and veggie.
The SAB stated that the event, which took place from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. in the Student Union, did not require any signing up. Pizza was available to grab and go, and students were encouraged to do both.
“In the Fall, with COVID in mind, I was looking for a way to give the students something different from our typical signature events. And I just thought, ‘well, what’s something we can do that’s quick, where we can still serve and reach a lot of students but also be mindful of COVID?” Labrian Phillips, spirit events chair, said. “So we did it in the Fall, and since National Pizza Day was on the 9th, we decided to go ahead and do it again.” The SAB had 100 pizzas ready to give away that afternoon.
“We gave out all of them. And within 30 minutes. So all of the pizzas were gone within thirty minutes,” Phillips said.
The SAB continues to host various events for the Tech community. For more information on events, follow SAB on Instagram @atu_sab.
