Tech’s Golden Girls Tennis team has big plans for this upcoming season. With good depth and returners such as All-GAC players Daniela Baez and Lea Grinberg, they feel confident in their abilities as a team.
According to the 2022 Preseason Coaches Poll, Tech tennis was picked to finish third. Junior and veteran tennis player Lea Grinberg disagreed with the poll. “I feel like they took what we did last year, and I feel we can do better than that. I feel like we do not relate to that [placement]”
In the meantime, the team has been focusing on specific areas to step up their game. “We are trying to improve doubles. We play teams that are very aggressive,” Lea Grinberg said.
Their team has grown from six players in the last season to 10, According to Isabella Major, a Junior. This will be an important fact that will aid the team in winning the conference this year. “We have a pretty solid team now, and [the freshmen] have a lot of time to still get better,” Major said.
According to Junior Daniela Baez, many on the team may have different individual goals, but that is what makes them great. “I feel like everyone is going to have a different goal, we all conclude in the same goal, we want to win conference.”
The tennis team’s next match is slated for this Friday at Chartwells Women Sports Complex at 2 against the Henderson Reddies.
