The Choral Artists of Tech hosted a preview concert featuring Russellville high school and the Kansas State University choirs. The preview was in preparation for the regional conference taking place on Feb. 28.
“We lost some days to practice because of the icy weather, but when they sing, no one will know that is how hard they work,” Christopher Harris, director of choral studies, said.
There are 42 singers in the choral artists’ program, and after regionals, they go back to performing standard programs for Tech and the community.
“It is my job to calm the students, and I know they can handle themselves. I am happy and proud of all the students,” Harris said.
After regionals, they have to wait until summer to find out if they made it to the national conference; “Going to nationals would be awesome. It would be a huge deal for us and one of the largest honors we could receive. Our seniors have done an amazing job and stepped up with all the challenges of COVID,” Harris said.
At this time, there are COVID guidelines in place at their concerts, like wearing masks and social distancing. To learn more about Tech’s choir program, you can email charris51@atu.edu.
