The First Generation Organization has reinstated their Power Hour event which will occur on Tuesdays from 4-6 p.m., in room 300A of the Ross Pendergraft Library on Feb. 13. Power Hour presents itself as a safe place for students to gather and set themselves up fro success.

“Power Hour is a time for students, first generation or not, to study, do homework, and unwind. It serves as our organization’s general body meetings, but everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend,” said Elli White, a junior from Malvern and president of the First Generation Organization.

“My goal for Power Hour is to create a support network of students and help them succeed. Life gets hectic, so I really want Power Hour to be a designated time and place for students to do whatever they need to do, and feel supported along the way,” White continued.

As stated by White, this weekly event will serve as the general board meeting for the organization in addition to holding space for any student to study in a communal space.

Although Power Hour is advertised as a time to focus on studying, it is not just about studying. It is a designated place for students to do what they need to do in order to be successful. Students can do homework and get access to resources they need, like tutoring. Or they can join friends in a designated “hang-out” space.

There will be different activities offered each week. Some of these activities include: coloring, mental health check-ins, snacks, and guest speakers. Every week, the organization will feature a new segment titled Topics of the Hour. These topics are optional and will be used to spark conversation and allow students to voice their opinion.

This event is not exclusive to first-generation students, all are welcome. For more information, students can contact the organization through email at firstgenorg@atu.edu or find them on Instagram at @atufirstgenorg.
