The Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys (3-4) traveled to Arkadelphia Saturday, Oct. 21 for a 1 p.m. kickoff with the #14 ranked Ouachita Baptist Tigers (6-1). The Wonder Boys entered the big game riding a 3-game win streak while the Tigers had suffered their first loss of the season just the week prior.
Quarterback Taye Gatewood, a senior from Fort Smith, fired up the ATU offense all afternoon, accounting for 344 total yards and a passing touchdown to wide receiver Caleb Tanis, a junior from Kansas City, MO. Redshirt tight end Jordan Edington, a junior from Little Rock, added 57 total yards and two rushing scores to help the Wonder Boy offense.
Defensive lineman Vershaud Richardson, a junior from Paris, TX., led the defensive effort with 2.5 sacks, bringing his total to 12 on the season while redshirt defensive back Javon Love, a junior from Carbondale, IL., led the team with 10 total tackles.
In a game that was a nail biter down to the final play, the Wonder Boys ultimately came up just short of the upset victory, 31-24. Arkansas Tech now sits at 3-5 on the season with three games left to play. The Wonder Boys will try to shake off the tough loss as they look ahead to a road matchup against East Central University (3-5) on Oct. 28.
