The Arkansas State Leadership Conference was held on March 29-30 at Arkansas Tech University. Seven different colleges from the state of Arkansas participated in this special occasion. The event consisted of performance events, workshops, and sessions on Friday. Awards of Excellence were presented to students on Saturday. Those who placed in the top four of their category are qualified to compete at the National Leadership Conference this summer.
The opening sessions entailed two greetings, one from Tracy Cole, Dean of ATU College of Business and Economic Development, and the other from Dr. Russell Jones, President of Arkansas Tech University. Students also got to hear from keynote speaker, Scott Wedge, Senior Quality Manager of the Home Department at Walmart.
Of the 14 ATU students that competed, all 14 of them placed. The following list includes the name, placement, and category that each student competed in:
Jordyn Barnett and Tre Smith: 1st in Business Ethics
Morgan Blamey: 3rd in Foundations of Hospitality Management
Meghan Bledsoe: 1st in Computer Applications
Kathy Check: 4th in Business Communication
Rose Gunther: 1st in Future Business Educator
Tibor Hollmann: 3rd in Hospitality Management Case Study
Blake Hudson: 3rd in Computer applications and 3rd in Foundations of Accounting
Olivia Johnson: 2nd in Business Presentation, 2nd in Community Service Project, and 4th in Foundations of Marketing
Julia Matteson and Ellena Tyree: 1st in State of Chapter
Julia Matteson: 1st in Foundations of Marketing and 1st in Foundations of Management
Shayla Miller: 2nd in Foundations of Hospitality Management and 2nd in Retail Management
Olivia Mosby: 4th in Impromptu Speaking
Ruth Musgrove: 3rd in Foundations of Finance
Taran Young: 1st in Foundations of Technology
All ATU students listed, as well as those from other schools who placed 4th or higher, have the opportunity to attend the National Leadership Conference. This year, nationals will be held in Orlando, Florida. Congratulations to all those who competed.
