The Wonder Boys traveled to Shawnee, Oklahoma to take on the Oklahoma Baptist Bisons, winning 31-7.
The Wonder Boys will look to that success home in their game against the Southern Nazarene Crimson Storm. The Wonder Boys sit just below fourth place in the Great American Conference standings. They are tied with seven teams in the conference at 1-2. The Crimson Storm sit in the same boat at 1-2.
Both the defense and the offense had a much more productive game last weekend against the Bisons. Offense scored 24 in the first half, while the defense held the Bisons scoreless until the end of the fourth quarter, allowing one touchdown.
Carter Burcham, from Greenbrier, continues to show huge potential as quarterback, throwing for two touchdowns and picking up a 21-yard run to score. He was 11 of 22 passing with 145 yards thrown. He also led the Wonder Boys on the ground with 99 yards.
Bryan Allen, from Forrest City, was close behind, picking up 96 yards rushing. Allen became the fourth all-time rushing leader for the Wonder Boys passing Greg Jefferson (1979-82). He sits at 2,865 yards rushing.
The Wonder Boys finished 7-of-14 on third downs and converted on 4-of-5 opportunities in the red zone.
The Wonder Boy’s defense played a great game, holding the Bisons to only 334 yards of offense and only allowing one score late in the fourth quarter.
D.J. Williams, from Mobile, Alabama, pulled down two interceptions during the contest. The defense stopped the Bisons 4-of-5 times in the red zone.
The Wonder Boys will take on the Crimson Storm this Saturday, at Buerkle Field at 6 p.m.
