Next fall, students can make use of their Taylor Swift obsessions, turning them into an academic tool. Following her global successes from her award-winning music, record setting tour and tour film and cultural buzz, Taylor Swift will be the subject of many college classes in 2024.

ATU is offering two classes revolving around Swift. One is titled “Marketing (Taylor’s Version)” and is taught by Katie Hook.

“Marketing (Taylor’s Version) has been on my mind since last spring, but it was really the Eras Tour and the social media content that has been generated around it that swayed me into wanting to make this class a reality,” Hook said. “The Eras Tour has taken the world by storm and it’s hard to ignore the impact that Taylor Swift has made over the past year.”

“In class, students will learn about a range of marketing concepts as they pertain to Taylor Swift,” Hook said, “But the main thing that I hope students walk away from class learning is how effective, strategic, and purposeful marketing can make an impact on a brand, company, or industry no matter how large or small.”

The other class offered is titled “Psychology of Taylor Swift & Fandoms” and is taught by Tiffany Nance. The class will focus on the psychological relationship between the singer and her fanbase.

ATU joins other universities across the country to offer such courses, including Harvard, UC Berkeley, University of Texas and numerous others. These classes range in focus from business, lyricism and literary analysis and marketing.

As of now, both classes have not announced if or when they will be offered again. However, both classes have open seats for the fall semester. Students interested in either class can reach out to its professors with questions.

“I have had interest from non-business majors and I welcome anyone genuinely interested in the course to consider it as an option if their schedule allows,” Hook said, “Please contact me at khook2@atu.edu if you have any questions.”
