In last week’s newspaper, we wrote an editorial labeled ‘We want Jerry’ as our mascot and created a QR code to determine your opinions.
We want to clarify the misconceptions. This was not a news story or a university statement; it was an opinion.
We wanted to understand all sides of the debate, and the only effective way to do that was by asking.
Yes, the question has been asked before but at a different time with another generation-the only way to understand the conversation is to be part of the conversation.
If we [the newspaper] did not believe the conversation was valid, we would have never voted to write the article.
We understand and respect all of Tech’s history, and the paper has recorded that history for almost 100 years; we never want that history to be erased or forgotten.
