Wonder week, the Student Government Association’s once-annual weekly school spirit event, is set to resume for the spring 2021 semester.
“Wonder week is like homecoming without the court,” John Hiland, SGA’s Secretary of Student Development, said.
The week is set to begin with Gold Rush Bingo on Feb. 7, an event to be put on by the Student Activity Board, aiding SGA in a few of the events. Tuesday features a food drive. All registered student organizations are invited to donate. Afterward, there will be a sculpture contest with donated non-perishable items.
“We do the contest so it is not based on who can buy the most food, so the smaller organizations have a chance at winning,” Hiland said. The food will be donated to River Valley Food 4 Kids, an organization dedicated to feeding local hungry children.
On Wednesday, lunch will be on SGA; students are encouraged to attend for free pizza and drinks. Thursday holds a halftime show at both the women’s and men’s basketball games, with chances to win prizes. The games start at 5:30 and 7, respectively.
Friday will be the most significant event, according to Hiland. It will consist of a home run derby in which RSOs can elect two representatives to see who can hit the ball the furthest, with prizes for the winners.
RSOs and students interested in being a part of the festivities can find information at @atusga on Instagram.
