The Wonder Boys (4-6) jumped out to a 35-0 lead in the first half against the North West Oklahoma State Rangers (1-9) on Sat. Tech would finish out the game-winning 56-21.
“Our guys did a really good job preparing last week,” head coach Kyle Shipp said. “We talked about it all week, playing at our standard. Part of a winning culture has a winning standard every day.”
In total, the Wonder Boy’s offense picked up 458-yards of total offense as quarterback Jack Lindsey threw 18 for 26 and picked up 184-yards through the air and three touchdowns.
Ron Thompson and redshirt freshman Keon Simmons combined to lead the Tech rushing attack, with 23 and 20 carries, respectively, with over 100-yard games.
Defensively the Wonder Boys defense held NWOSU to 357-yards, 303 of which came from the air on 16 completions. Dio Williams also had on pick for a 23-yard return. Matthew Minnix and Matt Aronald also have one forced fumble each.
Tech had 10 possessions and picked up a touchdown on eight of them, including finding the goal line on seven straight drives. The Wonder Boys also dominated time of possession, picking up 37 total minutes of offense.
Tech picked up 14-points in the first quarter, first with a pass from Lindsey to Jayrion Chase for an 18-yard passing touchdown.
Minnix picked up his fumble on the first Ranger offensive drive, also picking up a 20-yard sack.
The Wonder Boys would find the endzone again with a 6 play 42-yard drive, ending with a 3-yard rush from Thompson.
Tech would continue to dominate the Rangers, scoring another three touchdowns in the second quarter.
The Wonder Boys would put together a nine-play, 64-yard drive to push the lead to 21.
After the defense forced the Rangers to have two incompletions, the Tech offense got back to work with a six-play, 61-yard drive in 2:16, ended with a 21-yard pass from Lindsey to Adam Cousins.
The Wonder Boys would knock in their final touchdown of the half, leaving seven seconds on the clock, traveling 80-yards in 3:08 before ending the first half.
The Rangers picked up their first points from halftime, but the Wonder Boys would respond on their next drive with a determined 15 play, 81-yard drive taking almost six minutes off the clock.
Tech would tack on one more touchdown before the end of the third, aided by Williams’ interception giving the Wonder Boys a favorable field position on the NWOSU 18.
Shipp’s offense would travel the whole 18-yard length to find the endzone making the lead 49-7 going into the final quarter.
The Rangers knocked in two more touchdowns in the final quarter, but to wrap of a night of dominance, the Wonder Boys sent the Rangers packing with another touchdown ending the night 56-21.
The Wonder Boys host number 7 Harding Bisons on Sat. at Thone Stadium to finish up their season.
“[We are] going to have to be extremely disciplined,” Shipp said. “You can not play down to them on the physicality side; you have to meet them physically. ‘Who has the running back, who has the quarterback, and who has the receivers,’ those three things have to be done. Anytime you do not have those things, it is a 20-yard gain.”
Harding is averaging 45.2 points per game and 435.8-yards per game.
The kickoff is set for 2 p.m., and it will be Military Appreciation Day.
“We try and make that day a big fan day to honor our military, plus we always play better at home. However, we are going to have to play as good and better this last game than we have a season to have a chance in the fourth quarter, but we can do if we keep focused and do our job.”
