Madison Grantham started her journey at Tech in 2018; she played in 28 matches with 18 starts, was third on the team with 249 digs on the season and second on the team in service aces with 28.

In 2020, Grantham played and started in all 12 matches. She led the team with 258 digs, 17 aces and had a career-high of 33 digs.

Now Grantham is a senior and reflecting on her time at Tech. Grantham is from Nixa, Missouri and a nursing major at Tech.

“After trying volleyball in P.E. in 5th grade, I told my mom I wanted to play more. She signed me up for the city league when I was 11 and the following year, I started club volleyball and have been playing ever since,” Grantham said.

Through all the years of Grantham traveling for volleyball, her parents have been her biggest supporters.

“They always supported me, made sure they were at every game possible and encouraged me to be the best I can be. I wouldn’t be where I am today without them,” she said.

When looking at colleges Grantham picked Tech because of the impressive campus, atmosphere and academics. She credits having good time management and staying organized has helped her with nursing and volleyball.

“Nursing and volleyball together are not easy, but it is so rewarding. The professors and my coach are also so helpful and work with me so that I can be successful in both,” Grantham said.

Grantham has stepped into a leadership role on the team and off the team.

“Definitely, my teammates are the best, and they become some of your best friends and make every moment of it special,” she said.

Grantham has played in many matches over the seasons. Her favorite match this season was the win against Oklahoma Baptist.

“Our 3-0 win. We played at such a high level, had an incredible student section, and really made a statement,” she recalls.

She has personal goals as well as team goals for this year.

“For volleyball, we all really have our eyes on the conference title. For nursing, I am working hard to become more comfortable in the hospital and get prepared to take the NCLEX next summer,” Grantham said.

When Grantham is not on the court, she spends time outdoors hiking and going to the lake. The biggest advice she could give a student is,

“Work hard in school, but give yourself breaks and make memories. Your time in college goes by so fast, so enjoy the season of life you’re in right now,” Grantham said.
