‘Burning at Both Ends’ Opens in Art Gallery

Burning at Both Ends by Michael Shaeffer

Norman Hall Art Gallery at Arkansas Tech University is beginning its fall 2021 schedule with an exhibition of paintings by Michael Shaeffer. “Burning at Both Ends” is available for viewing in Norman Hall, 203 W. Q St. in Russellville, through Friday, Sept. 24.

A reception and gallery talk is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8.

The gallery is typically open 8 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays (excluding holidays), but hours may vary due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Those wishing to schedule a visit to the gallery may call (479) 964-3237.

A native of Long Island, New York, Shaeffer has resided in Little Rock since 2010. According to the artist’s statement posted alongside his exhibit, his memories of the New York City club scene in the 1990s and 2000s are the inspiration for much of his work.

“My process is to create problems and then to solve them,” said Shaeffer. “I guess my endgame is to run out of problems.”
