ZTA raises money for breast cancer research

Zeta Tau Alpha is hosting its Think Pink 5K run and walk on Saturday. The run is to fundraise and raise awareness for breast cancer. The run starts at the front of Doc Bryan at 8 a.m.

Registration for the 5K costs $30 to participate, with a t-shirt and a pass to bring to the check-in table on the day of the race included. To register, students and faculty will need to visit the website https://zta.crowdchange.co/3913. There, anyone who wants to register will be able to pay the fee and print out the ticket. Credit or debit is preferred, but if cash is necessary, it can be sent off.

The website also includes an option to either donate $30 without signing up for the run, or an additional donation of any amount. Each fee and donation will go to breast cancer research, education and awareness.

ZTA partners with three different charities: The National Football League helps ZTA with promotion; Bright Pink Workshops educate about the signs of breast cancer; and the American Cancer Society helps with hosting fun runs in order to fundraise. The money that is raised from all the philanthropy events is sent to Zeta Tau National and is then split up to each charity. The run raised $3,500 in 2017.

The organization hopes to raise $15,000 for their philanthropy in the 2018-2019 year.

“I definitely think we can do it. We just got a whole lot of eager new members so we’re really excited to just try to do that,” Callie Harper, philanthropy chair of ZTA, said.
