The Wonder Boys fail to come up with much of anything offensively in the season opener against the Southern Arkansas Muleriders losing 38-0.
The Wonder Boys will take on the Henderson State Reddies in their home opener at Thone Stadium Saturday, Sept. 8 at 6 p.m.
The Wonder Boys sit at the middle of the pack within the rankings sitting at 0-1 after losing to the Muleriders. The Reddies sit at the same point after also losing last week to the Harding Bisons in their season opener, 17- 41.
During the loss to the Muleriders, the Wonder Boys’ offense did not have much output, scoring zero points throughout the game. The Wonder Boys’ offense is still searching for a solid quarterback to lead. The team tried playing two different quarterbacks thoughout the game. Cale Fulsom, from Russellville, went 8-for-18 with 83 passing yards. Carter Burcham, from Greenbrier, threw 9-for-19 and 83 passing yards. Terrez Hampton, from Warren, had a team best of six catches on the night.
With all the struggles offensively, Bryan Allen, from Forrest City, moved up to fifth all-time rushing yards for the Wonder Boys. He ran for 36 rushing yards while also picking up 17 return yards reaching a total of 53 all-purpose yards. Allen sits at fifth of all-time rushing for the Wonder Boys with 2,959 yards.
Defensively the Wonder Boys struggled, letting the Muleriders score 24 points in the endzone. KJ Reid, from Texarkana, led both teams with 14 tackles. Dio Williams, from Denton, Texas, followed up with eight tackles.
