The Wonder Boys golf team started the spring season with a fourth-place win at the Las Vegas Desert Island Classic at Paiute Golf Resort in Las Vegas on Sunday and Monday.
The Wonder Boys tied for fourth in the 17-team field with an overall score of 596, just six strokes above the winner, the University of Redlands.
Tech shot a first-round score of 294 for second place after day one, but a second-round score of 302 resulted in a two-way tie with Missouri-St.Louis for fourth. Oklahoma Christian University shot 592 for second place, and the University of West Florida shot 595 for third place.
Alex Mahlik led the Wonder Boys tied for second place with a 144 total. Mahlik shot a 71 1-under par in the first round and a 73 in the second round for a four-way tie for second.
Bobby Holden of University of Redlands shot a 143 for the medalist position.
Julio Arguelles tied for 14th place with a 149 after shooting a 75 in round one and 74 in round two.
Jason Purdy tied for 20th with a 151 after shooting a 73 in round one and 78 in round two.
Jordan Hawkes tied for 27th place with a 153 after shooting a 75 in the first round and 78 in the second round.
D.J. Godoy tied for 48th place with a 157 after shooting a 80 in round one and 77 in the round two.
The Wonder Boys will host the Dave Falconer Classic on Monday and Tuesday at the Chamberlyne Country Club in Danville.
