Tennis splits road series

The Golden Suns tennis team came up with a 5-4 win over Northwest Missouri after struggling in an 8-1 loss over Drury in Springfield, Mo., over the weekend.

The No. 20 Drury Lady Panthers (9-1) overcame the Golden Suns (6-2) 8-1 on Friday, as the team of Tamara Bell and Camila Roca won No. 2 double 9-8.

The team of Bohdana Sardak and Olga Leyshyna lost No. 1 doubles 8-2, while Vandella Suico and Laura Sanchez lost No. 3 doubles 8-3. In singles play, Bell was defeated 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. Sardak was defeated 6-0, 6-2 in No. 2 singles. Leyshyna was defeated 6-0, 6-2 in No. 3 singles. Sanchez was defeated 6-1, 6-2 in No. 4 singles. Roca was defeated 6-1, 6-2 in No. 5 singles. Suico was defeated 6-2, 6-0 in No. 6 singles.

The Golden Suns did not let Friday’s defeat affect Saturday’s play, however, as Tech pulled a 5-4 win over Northwest Missouri.

Sardack and Leyshyna won No. 1 doubles 8-6, and Bell and Roca won No. 2 doubles 8-3. In singles play, Sardak won No. 2 singles 7-5. 6-3. Leyshyna won No. 3 singles 6-4,6-7, 6-3. Roca won No. 5 singles 5-7, 7-5, 6-4.

The results of Wednesday’s matchup against Henderson State will be featured in future issues of The Arka Tech. Tech will travel to Ouachita Baptist Thursday and return home April 2.
