Tennis competes at Central Region Championships

The Golden Suns tennis team competed at the UTSA/ITA Central Region Championships on Friday and Saturday. The event was hosted in Bolivar, Mo., at Southwest Baptist.

Seniors Olga Leyshyna and Bohdana Sardak went deepest into the 64-woman tournament for Tech.

Leyshyna recorded two wins on Friday to reach the round of 16 on Saturday. Leyshyna then fell to Harding’s No. 7 Piper Huey 6-2, 6-4.

No. 14 Sardak also recorded two wins on Friday to reach the round of 16 on Saturday. Sardak then fell 6-0, 6-0 to No. 2 Kristina Savchenkov of Northeastern State.

Junior Camila Roca won 6-2, 7-6 in the first round before falling 6-0, 6-4 to Harding’s No. 15 Ali Rowden.

Sophomore Tamara Bell dropped her first match 6-0, 6-2 to Southwest Baptist’s No. 1 Fanni Varga.

In doubles play, Leyshyna and Sardak won their first match 8-2 before losing 8-4. Roca and Bell lost their first match 8-3.

The Golden Suns will host the Golden Suns Slam on Oct. 3-4 at the Chartwells Women’s Sports Complex.
