Tech’s annual Family Day set for Saturday

Arkansas Tech University’s annual Family Day is set for Saturday before the Wonder Boys face the University of Arkansas-Monticello at 6 p.m. at Thone Stadium.

Family Day is geared to honor the role family members play in the success of college students and include many opportunities for parents to enjoy the Tech community.

Zeta Tau Alpha will host a Think Pink 5K. Registration begins at 7 a.m. at Tucker Coliseum, and the race will begin at 8 a.m. Early registration through Kinsley Akin at kakin2@atu.edu is $25, while onsite registration is $30.

The Family Golf Outing will be from 8-10 a.m. at the Russellville Country Club. Tee times are available every 10 minutes, and the cost is $25 per golfer, which includes a cart rental. Reservations can be made at (479) 968-1139.

The Family Day Jazz Brunch will be from 9-11 a.m. at Chambers Cafeteria and will feature performances by the Tech Jazz Ensemble and Tech Musical Theater. Students with a meal plan will be charged one swipe, while students without a meal plan and their family members will be treated to the meal by the Office of Student Services.

Family time is scheduled to allow family members to explore the Tech campus. The Norman Art Gallery will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.. The Tech Museum, which is in the Techionery building, will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the Tech Bookstore will be open from noon to 4 p.m.

Party at the Plaza features pregame tailgate festivities from 3-6p.m. at Centennial Plaza. Free activities include face painting, cotton candy and snow cones.

A tailgate meal will be served for one swipe to students with a meal plan. Students without a meal plan may pickup a meal at the Tech Parent and Family Relations tent.

The Tech Parent and Relations tent will also have free tickets to the football game on a first-come, first serve basis.
