Tech tennis sweeps 3 matches

The Golden Suns tennis team swept three matches in four days on the road over the past week to earn a 4-1 record to begin the season. On Feb. 18, Arkansas Tech defeated Hendrix 9-0 in Conway, and on Saturday, Tech defeated both LSU-Shreveport and Texas A&M-Texarkana in 9-0 matches in Texarkana.

In singles play of Tech’s shutout at Hendrix, Tamara Bell won No. 1 singles 6-2, 6-1. Bohdana Sardak won No. 2 singles 6-1, 6-0. Olga Leyshyna won No. 3 singles 6-0, 6-2. Laura Sanchez won No. 4 singles 6-3, 6-0. Camila Roca won No. 5 singles 6-4, 6-1, and Vandella Suico won No. 6 singles 6-0, 6-1.

In doubles play, the team of Sardak and Leyshyna won No. 1 doubles 8-0. Bell and Roca won No. 2 doubles 8-6, and Sanchez and Suico won No. 3 doubles 8-3.

Tech handily defeated LSU-Shreveport with a total of 72-6 game wins in singles play and 24-2 in doubles.

Bell won No. 1 singles 6-2, 6-0. Sardak won No. 2 singles 6-0, 6-0. Leyshyna won No. 3 singles 6-0, 6-0. Sanchez won No. 4 singles 6-2, 6-0. Roca won No. 5 singles 6-0, 6-1. Suico won No. 6 singles 6-1, 6-0.

In doubles play, Sardak and Leyshyna, as well as Bell and Roca, won their games 8-0, while Sanchez and Suico won No. 3 doubles 8-2.

The match against Texas A&M-Texarkana was a similar story.

In singles play, Leyshyna and Suico won their games 6-0, 6-0. Bell won 6-1, 6-0, and Sanchez won 6-0, 6-1. Sardak won 6-3, 6-0, and Roca won by default. In doubles, Sardak and Leyshyna, as well as Bell and Roca, won their games 8-0, while Sanchez and Suico won by default.

Tech will host Henderson State Friday and Newman University Saturday.
