Tech students enjoy scenic views during campus free recreation hikes

Arkansas Tech University offers students the opportunity to hike for free throughout the semester. Students can register by visiting IMLeagues.com and searching for Arkansas Tech University.

A list of all intramural sports and outdoor recreation trips that are provided throughout the semester will be available. If the registration status for a hike is currently open students can click the register button and sign up.

Austin Smith, a campus life graduate assistant of outdoor recreation from Fox, enjoyed a recent hike to Hawksbill Crag and Haw Creek Falls.

“Hiking is one of the best ways to get back to nature and hiking with a group provides an excellent opportunity to socialize and exchange ideas with peers,” Smith said. “Taking a scenic hike helps relieve stress and allows students to forget their worries for a while.”

Once the registration period is over, Tech’s outdoor recreation staff notifies registered students on the necessities of the hike. This includes things like appropriate clothing, shoes, snacks and water.

The day of the hike students are picked up by a Tech van, usually in front of Tucker Coliseum. Students are taken to the hike location and given a chance to socialize with each other in the outdoors.
