Tech cross country finishes last at SBU Bearcat Invitational

The Golden Suns cross country team finished sixth in a rescheduled Southwest Baptist University Bearcat Invitational in Bolivar, Mo., on Tuesday evening. The 5k race took place at the Bolivar City Municipal Golf Course.

Missouri Southern State University’s Dora Eastin claimed first place, finishing the race in 18:23.29. The event hosted six teams — Missouri Southern, Southwest Baptist, Central Missouri, Emporia State, Lincoln University and Tech — with 48 athletes.

Freshman Mary Simmons set the pace for Arkansas Tech University, as she at 20:22.15 for 22nd place. Freshman Maria Valente shaved 40 second off her personal best to finish second for the Golden Suns. With a time of 20:53.52, Valente earned 31st place overall.

Sophomore Jazmin Urioste finished in 43rd with a time of 22:46.39. Freshmen Logan Edwards and Afia Abdus Samad finished the course together with 45th place and 46th place and times of 23:33.14 and 23:52.53, respectively.

The Golden Suns will compete in the University of Arkansas at Little Rock Invitational in Little Rock on Saturday. The Jackling Jocks Invitational in Rolla, Mo., on Oct. 25 will be the next race for Tech, followed by the Great American Conference Championships in Ada, Okla., on Nov. 8.
