Arkansas Tech alumnus and “The Voice” contestant Cody Belew joined the Arkansas Tech Jazz Ensemble on Nov. 13 at Witherspoon Auditorium for “A Night of Jazz and Belews.”
Beebe-native Belew attended Tech from 2003-07 on a vocal performance scholarship. While at Tech, he performed with the Concert Chorale, Chamber Choir and Music Theatre Workshop.
While at Tech, Belew competed in Tech Idol four times before winning his senior year.
Belew said he has always known he wanted to be in music. Instead of showing of his favorite toy in show and tell, in the second grade he performed “Love Can Build a Bridge.”
In October 2012, Belew competed on NBC’s “The Voice.” Coach Cee Lo Green aided Belew to the top eight contestants.
Belew’s debut album, “What You’re Looking For,” was released in September 2013 and is available on iTunes.
Belew said he would only perform again at Tech if could alongside the jazz ensemble. His reasoning, he said, is that he always wanted to but never had the opportunity, which is also why he sand “The Man that Got Away” during the performance.
In addition to music, Belew owns a salon in Nashville, Hyde.
