Plans to improve campus Wi-Fi

Arkansas Tech University’s Wi-Fi is getting an upgrade.

Approved during a board of trustees meeting in November, Wi-Fi is scheduled to be in all residence halls by fall 2017.

Currently, all 18 buildings have Wi-Fi in common areas, but only Caraway Hall and Hughes Hall have the Internet connection in each room.

Work will begin at the end of the spring semester and continue in phases through the completion date.

In addition to Wi-Fi, fire sprinklers and alarms will be reinstalled. Although fire safety equipment meets required codes, President Robin Bowen said she wants to ensure the safety of students.

The project will cost more than $4 million.
