Tech offers many free classes in the Hull Dance Studio. Along with the free classes, it also offers inexpensive and more frequent classes, one of which is HIIT Like a Girl.
HIIT stands for High Intensity Interval Training. It is designed to help women meet their fitness goals.
There are three different options for this class. For $30 a month, a student can attend two classes per week. For $45 a month, a student can attend all three. If you are wanting to test the waters, you can pay $5 per class. HIIT Like a Girl is different than other classes because it has an equal amount of high and low intensity exercises.
Franci Harper, senior wellness science major from Russellville, instructs this class every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 4-4:30 p.m. Harper has been teaching this class for a year. Each day yields a different focus.
“We work total body on Mondays, upper body and core on Wednesdays and lower body and core on Fridays,” Harper said. “I have requests to offer morning classes again, so that will start in March. They will also be Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 5-5:30 a.m.”
Harper holds a personal training certification, along with piloting. She is currently working on a specialty certification in fitness nutrition, which she plans to incorporate into her training.
Four years ago, Harper embarked on a fitness journey that resulted in her losing 55 pounds. She has managed to keep the weight off and now helps other women reach their goals.
“My main goal for his class is to help regular women meet their health and fitness goals. I love hearing my girls say, ‘When I started, I didn’t think it was possible to do a plank row, and now I know I know I can do it.’ I want to empower women to be everything they want to be.”
