Golden Suns tennis 2 wins from season record

The Golden Suns tennis team claimed two conference wins for a 15-3, 3-1 Great American Conference record with three games remaining in the regular season.

With the recent wins, the Golden Suns are two wins away from equaling the school record for women’s tennis victories in a season, which was set when the 2008-09 Golden Suns won 17 matches and tied when the 2011-12 team reached the same score.

Tech swept Henderson State 9-0 on April 8 in Arkadelphia.

Bohdana Sardak and Olga Leyshyna earned an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles. Camila Roca and Tamara Bell earned an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles, and Sanchez and Suico earned an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles.

Bell rallied to take No. 1 singles 6-2, 3-6, 10-5. Sardak won No. 2 singles 6-1, 6-1. Leyshyna earned a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles. Sanchez fought for a 6-7 (3), 6-1, 10-4 win at No. 4 singles. Roca made a comeback to take No. 5 singles 2-6, 6-4, 12-10. Suico earned a No. 6 singles win with 6-2, 6-0.

The Golden Suns took a 7-2 win from Southern Nazarene at home on Saturday.

Sardak and Leyshyna won 8-3 in No. 1 doubles, while Bell and Roca won 8-3 in No. 2 doubles. Sanchez and Suico won 8-0 in No. 3 doubles.

Bell earned a No. 1 singles win 6-4, 0-6, 10-7. Sardak was defeated at No. 2 singles 7-6 (4), 6-3. Leyshyna won No. 3 singles 6-2, 6-2. Sanchez was defeated 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4 singles. Roca won 6-0, 6-0 in No. 5 singles, and Suico won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.

The Golden Suns will face East Central at noon on Thursday in Ada, Okla. Tech will host Southwest Baptist at noon on Saturday at the Chartwells Women’s Sports Complex before playing at Harding at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
