The Arkansas Tech Golden Suns used a 25-point performance from Fatima Adams to scrape past the Henderson State Lady Reddies 82-73 Saturday at Tucker Coliseum.
The Golden Suns (15-2, 10-1 Great American Conference) made six free throws in the final two minutes to down the Lady Reddies (6-11, 4-7 GAC) for the win.
Thanks to a basket by Danielle Frachiseur with 18 seconds left in the first half, Tech led Henderson State 40-38 at halftime.
Coming into the second half, a jumper by Adams provided Tech a four-point lead. The Lady Reddies tied the game by 18:43, however, an took the lead with a layup at 18:05. Henderson State went on to lead Tech by as many as five points until Shaunice Robinson made a two-point basket to give Tech a 55-54 lead with 9:57 to play.
The teams traded leads up until 7:30 remaining, when a jumper by Frachiseur put Tech ahead for good at 64-62. Anissa Pounds made two free throws to give Tech a four-point lead at 6:38, and a steal and layup by Robinson put Tech up by six with 6:24 remaining.
The Lady Reddies cut the score as close as three with 1:26 remaining, but Tech went 6-of-6 from the free throw line to seal the win. Pounds, Jacinda Myers-Sanders and Fabiana Monte each made two free throws to finish the game with a nine-point advantage.
Following the 25-point performance from Adams was Pounds with 17 points and Frachiseur with 12 points. Tech scored 25 points in the paint and 12 points off turnovers. The Golden Suns committed 17 fouls and was 13-17 from the line, which was echoed by the Lady Reddies.
The Golden Suns begin a three-game road trip at Southern Arkansas at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. Tech will return to Tucker Coliseum on Feb. 12 against Northwestern Oklahoma.
