Two hundred and forty student housing units will be located in the 1300 block of West Parkway Drive.
A Texas firm, Domus Development LLC, will build, own and operate the units. The project is estimated to cost around $20 to $25 million, according to Tony Moore of Moore and Co. Realtors.
The university’s Board of Trustees recently granted easements to Domus Development to build a pedestrian trail and bridge on land owned by Tech. This bridge and trail is meant to connect Domus’ new housing units to campus when the units are completed in fall 2019.
Spencer Hurlbut, a social studies education major from Russellville, sees the development as a positive for Russellville.
“I think it is a good thing the housing developments will be built on Parkway. In general, I think the new housing developments are good for Russellville as a whole,” Hurlbut said.
Dr. Robin E. Bowen, Tech president, commented on Twitter about the project: “Great to see the sign come up and the workers on the property moving dirt and making progress.”
“I think it is a great idea to offer off campus housing to students because it allows to have more freedom as a student,” Claire Jones, an elementary education major from Rogers, said.
No details such as estimated rental costs have been announced.
