For the first time in over a decade the Tech debate team will host a tournament on campus, which will be held from Friday through Sunday.
There will be two separate tournaments held over the weekend — one being an individual tournament, “TECHnically Speaking” and the other being a team effort titled “Team Me Up.” There will be anywhere from 16-18 rounds and more than 300 topics between the two tournaments.
Dr. Gabriel Adkins, the current team coach, and Dr. Chris Duerringer, the former team coach, have developed a new fighting system for the debate team during this tournament season.
“This is an incredible opportunity for ATU and the ATU debate team to show off our campus and our community to the debate community. The debate teams has a lot of plans for continued growth, and hosting tournaments on our campus represents a cornerstone for our team’s increased ability to compete successfully in collegiate debate,” Adkins said.
Students on the Tech debate team will not be participating in the tournament since they are playing host, Adkins said.
The Tech debate team is still looking to add volunteer judges to the pool of available judges for the tournament.
Those interested in volunteering should contact Adkins at email@example.com.
