Cross country ends season at GAC Championship

The Golden Suns finished its year with a seventh-place finish at the Great American Conference Cross Country Championships on Saturday at East Central University in Ada, Okla.

Freshman Mary Simmons led the Golden Suns with a 17th-place, 20:36.2 finish on the 5k course. Simmons earned second-team All-GAC honors for her performance on Saturday.

Harding claimed its second-straight cross country championship by earning 29 points. Southern Arkansas finished second with 50 points, while Tech finished seventh with 192 points in the 10-team championship. Southern Arkansas’ Carli Langley earned the individual title with a time of 18:33.0 in the 102-athlete race.

Freshman Maria Valente finished in 36th place with a time of 21:30.1. Freshman Logan Edwards finished in 57th with a time of 22:40.9. Sophomore Jazmin Urioste finished in 73rd place with a time of 22:36.9. Freshman Afia Abdus Samad finished in 81st place with a time of 24:10.6.
