Arkansas Tech University’s Campus Recreation has a full list of intramural sporting events and activities for the rest of the academic year, including the addition of several sports and classes offered through the department due to several student inquires.
Billiards, ultimate frisbee and bowling are the new sporting events the department is now offering to any student this spring semester. The deadline to sign up will be Tuesday for volleyball, racquetball, kickball and billiards. The deadline for dodgeball, soccer, ultimate Frisbee, bowling and softball is set for March 7. Students are encouraged to sign up for any intramural activity via IMLeagues.com.
Cameron Breshears, intramural coordinator for the office of campus recreation said the updated list of sports provides more opportunities for students.
“We think these new classes and new intramural activities will bring in a different demographic that we normally do not see, and we will hopefully continue to build this program through socialization, sportsmanship and exercise,” Breshears said.
The department also has a new list of classes for the spring semester, which includes insanity, yoga and zumba. The classes are taught and observed by Destiny Turner and Cheyenne Buford. Classes are free to any Arkansas Tech student or professional, and they are offered in the Hull Dance Studio. More information about the classes are available on the intramural website.
Jason Lolley, senior health and wellness major from Van Buren, said he is excited for the new classes and activities Tech is now offering.
“I have been in intramurals since freshmen year, and I encourage anyone who is looking to exercise with friends to join and be active in any sport they like or are curious about,” Lolley said. “I am also am very happy they started including new sports each semester, and I think we will have more people to play against this semester.”
