Breast cancer awareness activities planned

Studies have shown about one in eight women will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of their lifetime.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and organizations at Arkansas Tech University as well as businesses in the Russellville community have made an effort to recognize breast cancer awareness.

Zeta Tau Alpha hosted the ZTA Think Pink 5k Saturday.

The Student Activities Board (SAB)’s Big Pink Volleyball tournament concluded Thursday, and all proceeds went to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

The African American Student Association (AASA) will host Open Mic Night: Pink Edition on Friday from 7-8:30 p.m. at Young Ballroom. Tech students can come listen to poetry and singing, and light refreshments will be provided.

Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center will host Mammograms and Martinis on Oct. 21. This allows women in the community to have the opportunity to get a mammogram. Nonalcoholic martinis will be served to women while they wait.

Pink Ribbon Boutique is located at 906 W. Main St. in Russellville. This boutique specializes in post mastectomy products for women battling breast cancer.
