A free, statewide exercise competition called the Blue and You Fitness Challenge is currently open for Arkansas Tech employees, individuals or teams.
The contest will focus on engaging employees in cardiovascular focused fitness for at least 30 minutes a day, three days a week and will start March 1 and end May 31 with registration available online via the Blue and You Fitness Challenge website.
All individuals must register first before joining or creating a team. The website will show participants their move across the U.S. as they record the progress on the site.
This will be Tech’s seventh year participating in the challenge with Department of Human Resources running the event for campus.
Michelle Bishop, human resources assistant, said there have been around 100 people participating in recent years, including employees from the Ozark campus, the career center and Tech’s main campus.
“I think every year more people participate. We try to collect donations from local businesses to donate prizes,” Bishop said.
The team who won the most weekly challenges last year involved Paul Head, accounts payable manager, and Sandi Mitchell, accounts payable.
The Blue and You Challenge was created by Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield and the Arkansas State Department of Health for agencies to earn “bragging rights” and have fun together by exercising.
